Hiring Hall
ESC Local 20 provides a Hiring Hall for temporary positions at PG&E in ESC Local 20 represented classifications and gives many qualified applicants a foot in the door to a great career at PG&E. ESC Local 20 and PG&E created the Hiring Hall to extend the high union standards already established in these positions to a new group of employees and to protect against the erosion of quality, full-time positions by the overuse of contractors. Hiring hall definition: an employment office, esp. One operated by a union to place its members in jobs in the. Meaning, pronunciation, translations and examples. The Hiring Hall was created to fill temporary positions at PG&E in ESC Local 20 represented classifications. Temporary assignments are typically for 2 months to 12 months in duration but PG&E can end the assignment at any time.

- An 'exclusive' hiring hall arrangement means that the employer has agreed to hire only employees referred from a union hiring hall. You cannot be required to join a union to obtain work through an exclusive hiring hall. Under the National Labor Relations Act, employees have the legal right not to be union members.
- A hiring hall is an organization that is charged with the responsibility of providing workers to employers when and as needed. In most situations, this type of organization is connected with organized labor, and functions under the direction of a labor union.
The first step is to register for a pre-employment test at PG&E. This is done so via their website. PG&E will administrate all pre- employments tests. Some classifications that are filled through the Hiring Hall require a pre-employment test and/or resume. If a pre-employment test is required, you must be qualified prior to signing up with the union.
Please note: Jobs are posted by PG& E and the applicable tests are administered by PG&E on an as-needed basis when there is a need to recruit for specific classifications and/or locations.
